Quick Start for using mIRC for TeamTNT meetings
Note--we meet Wednesday evenings at 7PM US Central time
(8 EDT, 5PDT, etc) and Saturday at noon. Ty has a private server for TeamTNT use.
Once you get on the server, go to channel #teamtnt.
The server is up nearly all the time, so you can also drop in at other
times. Hang around a while if you do--the chances of hitting anyone within a minute
or two are a lot smaller than if you leave it up for a half hour or more.
NOTE: SERVER ADDRESS BELOW IS CURRENT AS OF AUG 2000
In mIRC, go to the status window and type this:
/server 64.34.208.101 666
If you're installing mIRC from scratch, here are a couple of hints...
You get a popup called "mIRC Setup" This is the tough part :)
- Enter your name or a comment
- Enter your email address
- Select a nickname, preferably your first name and last initial like
BillG so we'll recognize you
- Put an alternative in too, in case your main nick isn't available one
day when you log into a non-private server. Hint: You can alter your nick with underscores
to try to make it unique. Many of us use TNT_ or TNT- as a prefix.
- For public servers, select invisible if you don't want people to know you're around
unless you're in their channel (more or less). Keeps out some irritating messaging, if
you're plagued with such.
- Click the "identd" tab - check the "Enable Identd
server" on - enter your nickname as the User ID
- Click OK.
- Go to the "Status" window command line area and type the
/server line you see above on this page.
You are now set up to go. If you disconnect, you can click the little lightning bolt on
the toolbar or repeat the /SERVER command above. You'll log onto the TeamTNT server. Enter
#teamtnt in the channel field and you'll be where you need to be. Done
deal. Simple--even Duke Nukem coulda done it.
See you there!
